Who we are

We are a non-political and non-profit organization committed to creating opportunities for young people to channel their creativity, energy and aspirations to adding value to their communities. We develop the interest of the youth in governance, social inclusion and participation in the democratic and political processes in Nigeria.

We are aware that the voice of every young Nigerian needs to be heard – our programmes are community targeted to galvanize, train, support and raise the voices and stake of the Nigerian youth. We are building a new generation of young people that take responsibility for fixing their communities and country through active participation in the socio-political process.

The Get Involved Leadership Summit

The Get Involved Leadership Summit (GILS), spearheaded by the Lead Generation Initiative (LGI), has demonstrated remarkable impact since its inception in January 2021. This program is designed to empower young Nigerians with leadership and governance skills while fostering active citizenship. Its recent session in Yola, Adamawa State, specifically targeted the North-East geopolitical zone and trained 500 youths on themes such as leadership, economic development, governance, and political inclusion.

The event, titled “North-East Zonal Get Involved Leadership Summit”, included youth leaders from the six states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe. Themed “Improving Youth Productivity: A Panacea for National Transformation”, the summit aimed to inspire participants to return to their communities and organize Get Involved Leadership Trainings (GILT), creating ripple effects of empowerment at the local level. This model has already been replicated across several states, including Oyo, Osun, Bauchi, and Niger, showcasing its national reach.

Dignitaries, including governors and local leaders, contributed to the summit’s success, highlighting its significance as a platform for regional and national transformation. By ensuring youth participation at grassroots levels, GILS aligns with LGI’s broader mission to prepare Nigeria’s emerging leaders for impactful roles in governance and community building​

Get Involved Leadership Training (GILT)

The Get Involved Leadership Training (GILT), an initiative by the non-partisan and non-profit Lead Generation Initiative (LGI), has been instrumental in empowering emerging leaders since its launch on January 21, 2021, in Abuja. GILT has successfully conducted leadership training sessions across Oyo, Osun, Bauchi, Gombe, Niger, and Kwara states, fostering transformative leadership at the grassroots.
GILT trains local government and ward representatives in Leadership, Civic Responsibility, Rights, Political Participation, and nation-building. These leaders then pass on their knowledge, creating a ripple effect of empowerment within their communities. By cultivating responsibility and collaboration, GILT equips individuals to actively contribute to shaping a better Nigeria.

Highlights from the September 2020 training include:

  • Empowering Leaders: Samson Itodo, YIAGA Africa’s Executive Director, urged participants to become interdependent leaders who empower others.
  • Civic Engagement: Hon. Shina Peller, LGI Board Chairman, emphasized the role of youth in Nigeria’s future and encouraged active policy engagement.
  • Courageous Leadership: Participants were inspired to face challenges and lead boldly, using their skills to drive positive change.
  • Interactive Learning: Group activities and presentations underscored core values like trust, integrity, and innovation.

The September 2020 GILT training concluded with the presentation of certificates to participants, marking the beginning of their leadership journey and reaffirming the Lead Generation Initiative’s commitment to raising a new generation of transformative leaders for Nigeria.

The Emerging Leaders National Conference serves as a transformative platform aimed at shaping Nigeria’s future leaders. By convening national leadership events, conferences, and seminars in Abuja with participants from all states, the conference unites aspiring leaders from diverse backgrounds, providing them with the values, knowledge, and skills needed to drive meaningful and impactful leadership.

Women Leadership Development Program (WLDP)

Our Women Leadership Development Program is designed to equip women with the skills, confidence, and network to become impactful leaders in their fields. This initiative underscores the importance of celebrating women’s achievements, raising awareness about gender equality, and fostering capacity building and empowerment to inspire active participation in socio-political processes, leadership, and governance.

By focusing on education, mentorship, and practical opportunities, the program fosters a generation of women equipped to make meaningful contributions to society, ensuring diversity in decision-making processes and promoting sustainable development.

Highlights of the 2021 International Women’s Day Celebration by LGI
  1. Empowering Women Through Grants:
    • Twelve young women from Nigeria’s six geo-political zones were empowered with business grants of ₦100,000 each.
    • The beneficiaries were selected through a competitive process involving two-minute business proposal video pitch entries, showcasing the program’s emphasis on merit and innovation.
  2. Encouraging Thought Leadership via Essay Competitions:
    • An essay writing competition awarded six winners (two per geo-political zone) ₦50,000 each.
    • The initiative fostered critical thinking and provided a platform for female participants to voice their perspectives on gender equality and leadership.
  3. Sponsoring Women for Advanced Leadership Training:
    • Two participants were sponsored to attend the Global Women Leadership & Governance Summit by the Geofidel Institute for Gender Studies.
    • The week-long training, “Advanced Women Leadership Summit: Preparing Women for Board Service,” equipped attendees with advanced governance and leadership skills.
  4. Inspiring Dialogue Through a Virtual Conference:
    • Keynote address by Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, and guest speeches from influential leaders like Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa and Tara Fela-Durotoye.
    • Panel discussions with notable figures, including Hon. Taiwo Oluga, Hon. Stella Okotete, and others, highlighted strategies for increasing women’s involvement in governance and leadership.

The LGI Student Community Initiative

As a flagship program of this non-governmental, non-partisan, and non-profit organization, the initiative is specifically tailored to inspire and equip students within higher institutions across Nigeria, transforming them into agents of positive change in their communities.

Launched with the vision of creating a ripple effect of impactful leadership, the LGI Student Community Initiative strategically targets at least 50% of higher institutions in every state. The initiative operates through a structured and hands-on approach that emphasizes equipping students with critical skills and knowledge.
