Saturday, 19th February 2022, was a day to reckon with at BON Hotel Ikeja Residence, Lagos State, as young and patriotic Nigerians from different spheres of life converged to launch the We2geda Movement in the South West.
The event also witnessed the official unveiling of the strategic partnership and signing of partnership documents between We2geda Movement and Lead Generation Initiative (LGI), with Dr. Linus Okorie, President of GOTNI Leadership Centre, delivering the keynote address.
In his remarks, Ibrahim Hussein Abdulkarim, the convener and Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of We2geda, highlighted the disservice of money politics to the nation, emphasizing that the movement was birthed to address this issue. He reminded attendees that Nigeria’s founding fathers envisioned a country for Africa, not just Nigerians, and stressed that We2geda is about future generations.
“This is an opportunity presented to us; hence, if you think this is about us, you are missing it. It is not about us but our unborn generations,” he said.
Abdulkarim also announced the goal of recruiting 270 people in every ward to narrate its needs, stating, “We want to have a minimum of 270 people in every ward so they can tell us what that ward needs.”
Hon. Shina Peller, National Coordinator and a serving House of Representatives member, expressed confidence that We2geda is a tool to steer Nigeria back on track, especially with the 2023 general elections approaching. He called for an end to godfatherism and the imposition of candidates while urging the establishment of strong institutions over powerful individuals.
The event also featured notable personalities, including Nigerian music legend Innocent Ujah Idibia (2Baba), comedian Broda Shaggy, Kenny Blaq, and other entertainment and business icons who aligned with the movement.
