Get Involved Leadership Training (GILT)
The Get Involved Leadership Training (GILT), an initiative by the non-partisan and non-profit Lead Generation Initiative (LGI), has been instrumental in empowering emerging leaders since its launch on January 21, 2021, in Abuja. GILT has successfully conducted leadership training sessions across Oyo, Osun, Bauchi, Gombe, Niger, and Kwara states, fostering transformative leadership at the grassroots.
GILT trains local government and ward representatives in Leadership, Civic Responsibility, Rights, Political Participation, and nation-building. These leaders then pass on their knowledge, creating a ripple effect of empowerment within their communities. By cultivating responsibility and collaboration, GILT equips individuals to actively contribute to shaping a better Nigeria.
Highlights from the September 2020 training include:
- Empowering Leaders: Samson Itodo, YIAGA Africa’s Executive Director, urged participants to become interdependent leaders who empower others.
- Civic Engagement: Hon. Shina Peller, LGI Board Chairman, emphasized the role of youth in Nigeria’s future and encouraged active policy engagement.
- Courageous Leadership: Participants were inspired to face challenges and lead boldly, using their skills to drive positive change.

The September 2020 GILT training concluded with the presentation of certificates to participants, marking the beginning of their leadership journey and reaffirming the Lead Generation Initiative’s commitment to raising a new generation of transformative leaders for Nigeria.

We hold regional summits in each of the six geo-political zones in Nigeria to address issues that are crucial to each zone.
The Get Involved Leadership Summit
The Get Involved Leadership Summit (GILS), spearheaded by the Lead Generation Initiative (LGI), has demonstrated remarkable impact since its inception in January 2021. This program is designed to empower young Nigerians with leadership and governance skills while fostering active citizenship. Its recent session in Yola, Adamawa State, specifically targeted the North-East geopolitical zone and trained 500 youths on themes such as leadership, economic development, governance, and political inclusion.
The event, titled “North-East Zonal Get Involved Leadership Summit”, included youth leaders from the six states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe. Themed “Improving Youth Productivity: A Panacea for National Transformation”, the summit aimed to inspire participants to return to their communities and organize Get Involved Leadership Trainings (GILT), creating ripple effects of empowerment at the local level. This model has already been replicated across several states, including Oyo, Osun, Bauchi, and Niger, showcasing its national reach.
Dignitaries, including governors and local leaders, contributed to the summit’s success, highlighting its significance as a platform for regional and national transformation. By ensuring youth participation at grassroots levels, GILS aligns with LGI’s broader mission to prepare Nigeria’s emerging leaders for impactful roles in governance and community building

Highlights of the 2021 International Women’s Day Celebration by LGI
- Empowering Women Through Grants:
- Twelve young women from Nigeria’s six geo-political zones were empowered with business grants of ₦100,000 each.
- The beneficiaries were selected through a competitive process involving two-minute business proposal video pitch entries, showcasing the program’s emphasis on merit and innovation.
- Encouraging Thought Leadership via Essay Competitions:
- An essay writing competition awarded six winners (two per geo-political zone) ₦50,000 each.
- The initiative fostered critical thinking and provided a platform for female participants to voice their perspectives on gender equality and leadership.
- Sponsoring Women for Advanced Leadership Training:
- Two participants were sponsored to attend the Global Women Leadership & Governance Summit by the Geofidel Institute for Gender Studies.
